1 hour before the eclipse, i saw 2026 Eclipse Webcams on HN. Before heading out to see it myself, I had to set something up. The prompt:
https://jonty.github.io/2026_eclipse_webcams/ open as many streams as possible and start recording as fast as possible. document the source and location of each stream. the eclipse starts in 50 minutes: i want a timelapse of as many webcams as possible to play back in unison later. the resulting video should be ~30s and should cover ~1-3 hours. mind disk usage: maybe only keep enough frames necessary for the timelapse.
After filtering out the broken streams, 87 remain. And yes, I skipped iceland, because... the weather made it not very exciting.
87 different views of the 2026 eclipse, seen from mainland europe (18:25:23–18:35:23 UTC, 12 aug 2026)
Thanks to jonty for building the eclipse webcam directory, and zoenolan for posting jonty's directory to HN.
